March 2010 Chamber News

This past month (February) the Pickens Chamber held its annual banquet and enjoyed a time of fellowship and recognition of members of the Chamber. This year’s banquet featured the Heart Choral, an all female barbershop quartet. Heart Choral is part of the Sweet Adeline organization which is committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony.

The Chamber also recognized several businesses and individuals that not only support the Chamber but also the community.

The Chamber gave special recognition to the Rock at Jocassee as Chamber Member of the Year. Larry and Judy Williams, owners of the Rock along with entire staff were recognized for their customer service and support of Chamber activities.

The Chamber decided to recognize a business that showed a commitment to the overall improvement within the City of Pickens. This year the Chamber recognized Jeannie Gilstrap, of Stockade n’ Stuff, for her dedication and commitment to the community.

The Duke Energy Citizen of the Year award this year was Milledge Cassell. Milledge was recognized for his commitment to the service of others. Throughout Milledge’s life he has been active in groups and causes that are busy making things better in Pickens and beyond. He has put other’s needs ahead of his own and has inspired others to be better persons.

Congratulations to the Rock at Jocassee, Stockade ‘n Stuff and to Milledge Cassell for their commitment to the community. A special thank you to: the Parkette, Flowers by Virginia, Michael on Main, Pace Jewelers and to Pickens First Baptist Church for their help in supporting the annual banquet..
